I don’t know about you, but I can tell you that I often block myself from moving joyfully forward with my inspired ideas because I am trying to hard to be perfect and get it all right the first time I try something. I am learning, though.

Today as I sat in silence I began to see that I could instead just be playful and begin to experiment with the new ideas and projects that I am ready to take action on.

What if the beauty of growth is in making messes, getting it wrong 1,000 times before we finally hit the Eureka moment?

What if the fun is in just being happy as we try something new?

Many times in the last few years I held myself back— wanting to arrange every circumstance just right before taking the leap and making a move on a creative project. My desire to “be perfect” was really a fear of not being good enough or worrying about how others would perceive me.

I am growing beyond all that.

Phew! I am so glad!

My new approach is to simply enjoy the day I am in and take the next steps I am ready for. I give myself permission to “make mistakes” and not get it right the first time. I choose to be more like a child and allow myself to enjoy the entire process of getting good at something.

I see, in retrospect, I didn’t become a professional basketball player overnight. No! It took me years of missing baskets, looking foolish on the court, and learning a myriad of new skills until I hit the big breakthroughs. So, now I will use the same approach in doing the content creation I am called to do in this next phase of my career.

How about you? Do you ever struggle with these inner dynamics and blocks? Are you ready to try a new approach?

Share below…let’s grow together! Here is a sound cloud audio I created on the topic — a reminder to help me enjoy the process rather than freeze myself in trying to be “perfect.” Enjoy and feel free to share with anyone in your life who could use the reminder!
